The Plantsman Nursery has previously operated from a totally unsuitable site in Devon in the SW of England within Dartmoor National Park. Restricted by planning regulations on visitors and parking/deliveries, location, infrastructure and a whole host of other issues visitors were usually unable to visit and see the plant collections in flower. Indeed we operated only by mail order for the majority of the time there.
Covered growing space was at a premium not only for the tender plants but also for the majority of the hardy collection. Then there was the little problem about the weather! It seemed the year we arrived the Gulf Stream diminished steadily and summers were short and wholly unsuitable for flowering much of the material we had collected from the wild or from other collectors.
In short the whole operation from the mail order business to the site was unsatisfactory for a host of reasons.
So we took the momentus disission to move the whole nursery to France!!
The move to France Europe is a big one, but we believe the new site will offer every possible chance for us to fulfill our new direction and vision. This new direction is twofold.
Firstly to offer a first rate professional retail service with an unprecedented range of exciting plant material both from the website via mail order and direct from the nursery itself.
The emphasis here is on a reliable, efficient service with a first class professional product where all plants are raised to the highest possible standards and where customer service is paramount. We have already and will continue to totally restructure our business towards this end.
The new site is situated in the Gironde Department of France in the region of Aquitaine. Some 30/40 minutes from the city centre of Bordeaux (10 minutes from the town of Libourne) and in the heart of the most famous Bordeaux wine growing region 10 minutes from the vineyards of St Emillion and Pomerol. The area is connected to all Europe by the superb AutoRoute motorways and is accessible from the main A10 and A89 motorways.
The site is extremely close to the main North South motorway routes to Spain and Portugal and the South Western axis route to the French Mediterranean coast via Toulouse and Montpelier.
The
Plantsman Nursery has achieved considerable success attending RHS
shows in recent years. We have been awarded two bronze medals, one
silver and one silver-gilt. Our current plans do not have
us scheduled to attend any shows in the UK as we are devoting our
energy and resources to ensure that all plants we offer for sale are
the very finest specimens and of a consistently high quality to provide
complete customer satisfaction.
We always believed we should do one section of plants in depth and this we did and will continue to do with Climbing plants both temperate and tropical and they will always remain our core business area with the nursery constantly re evaluating and supplementing the range we offer with the ultimate aim of perfection.
