| The Plantsman Nursery has been in existence for nearly 15 years. Borne out of a passion for the huge range of plant material from both temperate and tropical climates that seemed only to be available in Botanic gardens or protected collections, the aim was to offer some of the extensive hard to find range of beautiful ornamentals and introduce new ones from the wild. |

The frustration of visiting a famous public garden stuffed full of unusual and exciting material and then only being able to buy the most rudimentary plants usually brought in from big trade nurseries that were available in every other garden centre, was shared by many. |
| Things have improved dramatically since the early 1990’s and now there are a host of specialists operating both large and micro sized specialist nurseries. There is however no substitute to seeing a mature flowering specimen in full bloom. All too often nurseries are restricted, as we were by climate, space, finances, location and a host of other considerations. The Plantsman Nursery has previously operated from a totally unsuitable site in Devon in the SW of England within Dartmoor National Park. Restricted by planning regulations on visitors and parking/deliveries, location, infrastructure and a whole host of other issues visitors were usually unable to visit and see the plant collections in flower. Indeed we operated only by mail order for the majority of the time there. Covered growing space was at a premium not only for the tender plants but also for the majority of the hardy collection. Then there was the little problem about the weather! It seemed the year we arrived the Gulf Stream diminished steadily and summers were short and wholly unsuitable for flowering much of the material we had collected from the wild or from other collectors. In short the whole operation from the mail order business to the site was unsatisfactory for a host of reasons. The move to France Europe is a big one, but we believe the new site will offer every possible chance for us to fulfill our new direction and vision. This new direction is twofold. Firstly to offer a first rate professional retail service with an unprecedented range of exciting plant material both from the website via mail order and direct from the nursery itself. The emphasis here is on a reliable, efficient service with a first class professional product where all plants are raised to the highest possible standards and where customer service is paramount. We have already and will continue to totally restructure our business towards this end. To display in both gardens and commercial glasshouses mature specimens of the most beautiful and exciting plants. This is self explanatory and we believe we can now produce both a tropical and garden display to match the best and exceed most. |
